SEVEN BILLION MIRACLES
by Albert Russo
a second has just slipped by
a needle in the haystack of Time
and while this line is being couched
another second evaporates
blood pulses in your veins
the cells are in a constant turmoil
and the heart skips another beat
life flows like an undercurrent
whereas you are oblivious to it
each individual is a miracle of creation
and yet, there are men, mostly men,
but a few women too, who want
to pit themselves against God
maiming and killing their fellowmen
in random terror attacks
the spilling of blood, the destruction of life
to them is like a counter miracle
their hatred of unknown victims
is in truth an expression of self-loathing
loathing of all their failures and
of their incapacity to love
yet they aren’t aware of this
and believe those terrifying ‘men-of-god’
who promise them an afterlife of bliss
amid a harem of virgins
