Pandemic

by Alexander Duncan

roving chariot of despair
master of the air

fearful nightmare
repairing and preparing the marriage of man and earth

soul and dirt, dearth
inert that threatens to smother truth
as we lurch into the future, shot in arm

vampiric virus that loves the old blood best
and then consumes the children in the nest
and then like death multiplies

normalcy recedes
fantasy bleeds seeds of self-destruction

what is next?
