North Korea
by Francine Kaye Hendrickson
I disembodied ignorance on Google Maps
used longitude and latitude as an axe
to hack through the blank face of North Korea
it took me 36 minutes to find you,
Concentration Camps.
nestled in the snow covered mountains
like the devil in his hell's roost
I had to look past skinned baby bunnies
and complaining about sucked dry humanity
to find him
I spoke to a boy,
born with no name
and a shriveled face
Born
And Raised
In Concentration Camp
he is 4 years older than me
he has had the skin on his back
hung from rusty meat hooks
the black flames of Kim Jong's eyes
have greedily licked at his calves
he has tasted the warts of a live toad
helped stone his mother to her death
he is the silent audience
for shovel head abortions
he tells the stories of hell on earth
with scars,
long pauses
and hand drawn pictures
he is the only known survivor of a death camp
where people are born dead
he speaks of things
no one was ever meant to hear
"My one regret
is letting the electric fence kiss my only friend goodbye
so that I could escape"
he says
so eager for an outside world he did not know existed
did not know why he was born into death camp
to him,
Freedom
is food to fill in his skeleton skin
and Kim Jong is just an empty face
The only comfort after conversation
the only thing I could give him
was the fact
That I Knew
Dear Ignorance
I wish you 36 minutes on Google Maps
I hope you nightmare yourself
the only guard at a North Korean Death Camp
with his heart on the tip of every machine gun bullet,
shovel blade and cracked whip
I hope you meat hook yourself educated
enough to realize what you've done
I hope you see things
that make Lucifer himself wince and wail for mercy
I hope you know of things
like God
falling from his throne of tears in the sky
One day I pray you know..
that you can find no comfort
in knowing
We Are To Blame.
