50 to Learn It, 50 to Live It

by Louis Marvin

My experience, my ego says

my time on this earth

my boxing with the great athlete life, a master tactician and so damn strong

I have learned the themes and the yes/no game

but to my dismay, my ego again

my body begins to fail me as I have reached nearly 50 damned years of age

now, I know what I want to do, and how to do it

but my knees and feet and back and lungs and eyes and mind are sliding

now, I must learn to walk towards the lights in grace and dignity

having learned the game, and now walking slowly away from it
