Jokes on You

You said I would never make it to see 18

Well the jokes on you

You said I would never make it out of the hood

Well the jokes on you

Said the streets would see me before I see myself

Well the jokes on you

You said I’d be either in jail or in prison

Well the jokes on you

You said for only I, bars will only be life

Whether they be metal or what I write

Well the jokes on you

You said that my father wouldn’t stay by my side

Well the jokes on you

You said because of drugs, my mother would die

Well the jokes on you

Never thought I’d make it anywhere

Yeah, the jokes on you

Told the people that I was a problem

That I would never make it to college

The jokes on you

You said I’d become a product of my environment

That jokes on you

I got my diploma, I’m in college

My soul never died and my father’s still there

Yeah, this black boy made it

April fools, fool, the jokes on you

ABOUT THE POET ~
Everything that I write, whether it is through poetry or story telling, the stories I tell are all events and situations which I have lived. I write with the purpose of sharing my story, hoping that someone either listening or reading, will feel inspired. I also write to encourage other's to share their own stories, their words may also have the power to motivate and/or inspire. . People are my passion, life is my motivation, and true love is my reward.
