Carpe What?

by Drora Matlofsky

These days people talk a lot
about enjoying the moment.

It makes sense to enjoy
a day at the beach,
your grandson's birthday
or the satisfaction brought on by pursuing a project,

but I confess,
even though the great Zen masters
wax poetic over soap bubbles,
I'd rather think of the beach,
my grandson
or my projects
while washing the dishes,

and I have yet to learn to enjoy the moment
at the dentist's.
