Mom

by Kaylee Thomason

I told you my secrets, And you kept them safe.
I cried on your shoulders, And you dried my tears.
You knew me like the back of your hand.
You were my best friend.

As the years went by,
We grew farther apart.

I no longer told you my secrets,
You were too busy hiding yours from me.
I no longer cried on your shoulders,
Because you were usually the cause.

Instead, you instilled me with trust issues,
And showed me the true definition of betrayal.
Who would’ve known?
Just one needle, and a dime bag.
That’s all it took and you were hooked.
