Rock Bottom

by Drora Matlofsky

I am afraid of writing
Because if I write
Truth will spill out
In a river of tears
And I might drown,
My boat might sink
Like the old drunken boat.
(By the way, it wasn't really drunk
because when you're drunk,
you lose touch with inspiration.)
But when you drown in a river of tears,
When you sink to the bottom,
It's different.
Suddenly you find you can breathe under water.
The world changes
And you don't miss the harbour at all.

At least, I think
Because I haven't been there
Yet.
