The Clown's Philosophy

by Andrea Laws

a desperate want of being
is an illusion

a soulless purpose to recognizing oneself
is an delusion

a darkness that has no light
is truth

a fantasy that is real
is a lie

who claims these clouds?
these dripping, unshielded rain drops,
leaving nothing but acceptance

making man compelled to fight
driven to win and to
weed out the conscious drones

freedom has been stripped

trapped in fear’s impolite silence
spineless in world’s trust, thinking,
‘maybe tomorrow will be better’
