What Happened To Love

I found it in the debris of a lost feeling
In the fragments of broken hopes
I saw a light glow
I felt love deeply healing
Resting the heart from its usual lopes
Mending, setting aright just right below
Why the emptiness, the sudden darkness?
What have I been feeling, seeing?
Can anybody hear my cry, am I in a dream?
Why would love caress my hopes?
And light seemed to be shining my way
Why then would too much of any make blind?
Did I have to coax?
So she would have fallen for my miserable hoax?
Should I have shunned the truth?
Just to con her with words uncouth?
What happened to words unfussy?
Words simple, like, “I love you”
Words said not in fervor but surely true
Words that set the soul illuminated
And if you will listen, hear each sound going deeper
What happened to faith; what about trust?
Honest promises made, but only in moments gassy
So tell me; if I had ceased the tease
And I went before her on bended knees
Saying please………
Would she have taken my hand to seize?
Smiled at me to put my heart at ease?
So what really happened to love?
To leave a heart once soft frozen
To only leave my world numb
I’ve woken up again to my sorry fate
Since love walked out through the gate
Life also left home to date
What happened to love?
