Blind Stars

Beneath the stars, forever blind,
To beauty of a different kind,
To stare at Venus then at Mars,
And stumble back into the bars,
To the rumble back of passing cars,

The traffic passing by is real,
The hum and roar is all I feel,
Through choking fumes of smoke and dust,
With gleaming bodywork and rust,

I jump into the nearest bus,
To get away from me and us,
I trundle through the smoky haze,
I know we will have better days.

ABOUT THE POET ~
Age 70, born in Liverpool Uk 1945. When in early teens attended the famous Cavern Club Liverpool and was a Beatles fan before they had a recording contract. My school pal was Brian Patten who went onto become a well known Merseyside poet along with Roger Mcgough and the late Adrian Henry. Although a dedicated Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison fan, I became mesmerised early on by American Country and Western music and followed all the mainstream stuff of the 50's and 60's Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Hank Snow, Skeeter Davis, Chet Atkins Johnny Cash, The Carter family, Glen Campbell, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and many more. Later following Allison Krauss, Emmylou Harris and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys and also the works of Jimmie Rodgers, the "Singing Brakeman" I read a lot of Gothic fiction when younger. Edgar Allen Poe's short stories and poetry. Ambrose Pierce, Guy De Maupassant, Bram Stoker and H.P.Lovecraft., Enlisted in the British army and served my time in Germany and Malaysia, where I met my wife of 45 years, plus. In Malaysia I became very interested in the reptiles, mainly the snakes, of that country and I still keep and breed snakes as a hobby, to date. I have a small reptile room at home where I maintain a variety of snakes, at this moment there are 65 snakes in my care. I have always liked poetry and was impressed early on by the output of the Canadian poet Robert W. Service. I was particularly impressed with Hank Snows Superb renditions of those poems. My poetry writing was always a struggle until a couple of years back when we lost our beloved daughter Anita, This personally tragic event stimulated something within and my poetic writing has improved somewhat. Forgot to mention I am a "closet singer" and have a repertoire of Buddy Holly and Country songs.
