What You Focus On

Pain is al consuming in its terribility
Easy to dredge up, access, and hone
Easy to forget that other things exist
But take the small
The simple
The serendipitous
And shine them 'til they catch the eye
Of you and everyone they cross
Take the bright beauty of a moon full and a contented sigh and hang them with pride
Let your conversation piece be the glint of first sun over water or the sudden laughter of a stranger
Sharpen the sword of joy and cut away the jagged and the jaded
So we are cut by the grief of life, we cut back

ABOUT THE POET ~
Jessica has always found poetry, and writing in general, to be her preferred way of working through difficult emotions and life changes. Her works have thus been heavily influenced by the death of her father when she was 18. She's now working on how to write about other things less tinged by tragedy with encouragement of her poetry club.
