Undercurrents

by Ken W Simpson

Moments left behind
on deserted beaches
or city streets
washed by waves
of discontent
to the muted sounds
of looming threats
whining and growling
beside rigid rows
of tenements
rising up and along
animated avenues
gaping at the sky
above a scene
flexible and alive
with fluctuating faces
like elusive moods
that fade into the dimness
of a departing day.
