Heirlooms

My dietician says if I don't eat
my ostrogen won't restore.
My body will always be a door
locked on its hinges,
safe-guarding its room
of dust and secrets.
Her toddler behind her scribbles
as if his life depends on it.
Is he heavy enough that she could use him
as a kettlebell for Russian twists?
A dumbbell for deadlifts?
I shake off my thoughts
and ask if eating disorders are genetic,
if I will pass on this loss
of bone mass and conscience.
