Love me less O lady love me long
Rain all along o lady rain all along
As the earth absorbs but not all the rain
The excess water goes wasted in vain
So love me less O lady love me long
Rain all along o lady rain all along
Everything in proportion pleases more
Ships over laden reach not the shore
So love me less O lady love me long
Rain all along o lady rain all along
We love the rain when it is drought
But do not we pray it to cease
While in flood we are caught.
