Ah! Father

Atul Chandra Sarkar

I don’t know whether,
I really loved him,
Nor do I know how much,
I love him today,
Let people measure my love,
Let them test it in carats,
All I want today is to be,
On his shoulders once again;
I want him to hold me tight,
Tighter than ever before,
I want to feel his hug,
His concern to the core,
I want him to hold me,
I want him to scold me,
See him dust off the soil,
Guide me how to walk,
When to be soft, when not,
How to sit, how to talk,
I’d love to hear the his heart,
Resonate with unsaid feelings;
I want to chisel him,
To paint him on canvas,
To put him in verse,
I want him to rise, move,
Talk, instead of journeying,
Frigid in an unkind hearse.
