Red Sunsets and Mournful Moons

by Ken W Simpson

Arise sunshine
and greet the day
leaving
as you usually do
in anticipation
your moods varying
from bathetic to pathetic
deviating exotically
into the addiction
and banal repartee
heard on TV
before retiring at night
conjoined or not
it matters not a jot
because you're alone at home
or in a crowd
with the usual delusions
and the illusion
that today will be different
from yesterday
as you head towards
your inevitable decay
on the merry-go-round
you can never get off.
