50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson (born July 6, 1975, in Queens, New York), is an American rapper, singer, record producer, actor, songwriter, and businessman. Jackson began selling drugs at the age of ten, and began a music career in 2000, during which time he was shot and injured. After the release of his 2002 compilation album Guess Who's Back?, 50 Cent was discovered by Eminem and signed to Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records.With the help of Eminem and Dr. Dre, who produced his major-label debut album (Get Rich or Die Tryin') in 2003, Jackson became the most popular rapper of the moment and participated in the East Coast rap collective G-Unit (which he de facto led). In 2003, he founded G-Unit Records, signing his G-Unit associates Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo. Jackson achieved further success with the release of his second album, The Massacre, in 2005. Other albums followed with more moderate success, including his latest, Street King Immortal, in 2016.
Throughout his career, Jackson has sold over 70 million albums and has received numerous awards. He is the recipient of a Grammy Award, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, six World Music Awards, three American Music Awards, and four BET Awards. He is also an actor, appearing in his autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2005), as well as other films such as The Soldiers of the Desert (2006), Law & Order (2008), and Escape (2013).
