About Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American pop-rock band from Hawthorne, California. Formed in 1961 by three brothers, their cousin, and a friend, they enjoyed immense popularity in the 1960s and 1970s. They were one of the few American bands to rival British bands of the same era, such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Originally associated with surf music, the group distinguished itself primarily by its songs featuring complex and highly melodic vocal harmonies.Very popular in the United States in the early 1960s, the Beach Boys began their decline by the end of the decade, largely due to the poor mental health of Brian Wilson, the bassist, singer, and main songwriter of most of the band's hits. Still active, albeit irregularly, and authors of some notable comebacks in the 1980s (with titles such as the cover of California Dreamin' or Kokomo), the Beach Boys entered the Hall of Fame in 1988. With their singles and albums, they are, according to the American magazine Billboard, the first American group to have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.
