Known for her gravelly voice, she achieved success with the release of her debut album, The World Starts Tonight, and its singles, 'Lost in France' and 'More Than a Lover.' Her 1978 single, 'It's a Heartache,' reached number one in France, and also number four in the United Kingdom and number three in the United States. In the 1980s, Bonnie Tyler moved toward a rock style of music, with producer and songwriter Jim Steinman writing her biggest hit, 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' from the album Faster Than the Speed of Night. This song reached number one in many countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Steinman also produced two of Bonnie Tyler's major hits from the 1980s: Holding Out for a Hero and If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man).Bonnie Tyler continued to enjoy significant success throughout the 1990s, particularly in Germanic and Scandinavian countries, collaborating with Dieter Bohlen, who wrote and produced the single Bitterblue.
