Elvis Costello is an English singer-songwriter of Irish descent, born on August 25, 1954, in London. Elvis Costello was an early member of the pub rock scene—which emerged in the mid-1970s—and was later associated with the punk rock and new wave movements, before establishing himself as a truly original artist from the 1980s onward. An eclectic artist, one critic wrote of him: Costello, a walking encyclopedia of pop, can reinvent the past in his own image.Costello has won numerous awards throughout his career, including a Grammy Award, and has been nominated twice for a Brit Award for Best Male Vocalist. In 2003, Elvis Costello and the Attractions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Costello 80th on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
