About Nelly Furtado
Nelly Furtado, born 2 December 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, is a Canadian-Portuguese singer-songwriter, musician and actress . Furtado first made himself known with his first studio album inspired by trip hop, Whoa, Nelly! (2000), which was critically and commercially successful, and resulted in two top-10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, I'm Like a Bird and Turn Off the Light. The first one won him a Grammy Award in the category "best female pop vocal performance." Furtado's second studio album, Folklore, released in 2003, is an introspective album with folk accents that explores its Portuguese roots. His singles enjoyed moderate success in Europe, but the disappointing results of the album compared to his first album are considered a second failure. She has won numerous awards throughout her career, including a Grammy Award out of seven nominations, a Latin Grammy Award, ten Juno Awards, a BRIT Award, a Billboard Music Award, an MTV Europe Music Award, a World Music Award and three Much Music Video Awards. Furtado has her own star on the Aisle of Canadian Celebrities and was awarded the order of the Infant Dom Henri on 28 February 2014 by Aníbal Cavaco Silva, then President of Portugal.
