Perry Como, real name Pierino Ronald Como, born May 18, 1912 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and died May 12, 2001 in Jupiter Inlet Colony, Florida, was an American singer, actor and television host. His solo career began in 1943 under the RCA Victor label. He claims to have drawn particular inspiration from Bing Crosby for his singing style. He belongs to that generation of great American singers of Italian descent, alongside Frank Sinatra, Frankie Laine, Tony Bennett, and Dean Martin.Between 1944 and 1958, forty-eight of his songs were top-selling songs, and eleven of them reached number one on the Billboard charts.
