Rachel Agatha Keen, born October 24, 1997, in London, known by her stage name Raye (stylized as RAYE), is a British singer-songwriter. Raye rose to prominence in the mid-2010s through guest appearances on other artists' singles, followed by the release of dance singles and EPs. Initially signed to Polydor Records, she attracted media attention following her departure from the label, which reportedly refused to release her debut album.Raye independently released her debut studio album, My 21st Century Blues in 2023, to critical acclaim. The album's third single, Escapism, was her first song to top the UK Singles Chart and enter the US Billboard Hot 100. At the 2024 Brit Awards, Raye won a record in six categories, including British Artist of the Year. The BBC included the singer in its 100 Women of 2024 list. She was nominated in three categories at the 67th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist.
Raye's music blends genres; it is influenced by jazz, while incorporating pop, R&B, and soul. Her lyrics address her personal struggles and contemporary issues. Besides her own recordings, Raye co-writes songs for other musicians, such as Beyoncé, Charli XCX, John Legend, and Little Mix.
