Born April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas, and murdered March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was assassinated.Dubbed the Queen of Tejano Music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American artists of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the best-selling Latina artist of the 1990s, while her posthumous collaboration with MAC Cosmetics became the best-selling celebrity collection in cosmetics history. The media dubbed her the Texas Madonna for her fashion choices. She is also among the most influential Latin American artists of all time and is credited with catapulting a musical genre into the mainstream market.
