About Something Corporate

Something Corporate is an American rock band from Orange County, California. Its frontman is Andrew McMahon. While they categorized their own music as piano rock, the record industry classified them as pop punk. They are currently signed to Drive-Thru Records and Geffen Records. The band's name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to their lack of interest in music marketing. The band independently released their first demo album, Ready... Break, in September 2000. On March 27, 2001, Something Corporate announced a major lineup change, with Hernandez leaving the band and being replaced permanently by William Tell.
On May 21, 2002, their debut full-length album, Leaving through the Window, was released, featuring tracks such as “I Woke Up in a Car” and “Punk Rock Princess.” The album reached number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and the Billboard Alternative New Artist chart, and number 101 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, while “Punk Rock Princess” reached number 33 on the UK Singles Chart.
In February 2010, Andrew McMahon announced that Something Corporate was planning to release a best-of album in spring 2010. The band returned to the studio to re-record old songs that were to appear on the canceled Galaxy Sessions album: “Letters to Noelle” and “Wait.” Adam Young of Owl City produced a new remix of the song “I Woke Up in a Car.” The best-of album, titled “Played in Space: The Best of Something Corporate,” was released on April 27, 2010. On May 15, 2010, Something Corporate announced their Reunion Tour in August 2010. They disbanded later that year.
