About UB40

UB40 is a British reggae band founded in 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band's members bring diverse influences: Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Yemeni, African, and Jamaican. The band's name refers to the British Unemployment Benefits (Form 40) claim form. A friend suggested the name because the eight members were registered as unemployed when they decided to form the band.
Their hits include Kingston Town (a cover of Lord Creator), Bob Dylan's cover of I'll Be Your Baby Tonight, and Neil Diamond's 1968 cover of Red Red Wine. UB40 is one of the most prolific bands of the second half of the 20th century, with over 100 million records sold.
