George Ivan Morrison, known as Van Morrison—sometimes nicknamed "Van the Man" by his fans or "The Belfast Cowboy"—born August 31, 1945, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is a Northern Irish singer and songwriter.He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to music in 1996, and an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government the same year. In addition to his singing talents, he is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, piano, organ, saxophone, harmonica, and drums.
