About The Who
The Who is a British rock band from London, England. In its best-known and longest-lasting form, from 1964 to 1978, it consisted of guitarist and main songwriter Pete Townshend, vocalist Roger Daltrey, bassist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon.Initially playing aggressive rock 'n' roll, referred to as Maximum R&B and a precursor to the punk movement, the band embraced many other styles of the day: concept albums (The Who Sell Out), psychedelic rock with its offbeat lyrics (A Quick One While He's Away), ambitious rock opera (Tommy, Quadrophenia), and hard rock and repetitive music (Who's Next with its famous synthesizer loops).
Having become one of the symbols of 1960s rock music, The Who influenced it as a whole with legendary songs such as My Generation, Substitute, Pinball Wizard, Behind Blue Eyes, Baba O'Riley, Won't Get Fooled Again, Eminence Front, Who Are You, and I Can See for Miles, as well as numerous acclaimed albums. Their concerts at the Monterey Festival in 1967, Woodstock in 1969, and the album Live at Leeds in 1970 further established them as the best live rock band.
The Who is considered one of the major British rock bands of the 1960s and 1970s, along with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and later Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Deep Purple, as well as one of the main players in the British Invasion of the United States.
