About Virgin Prunes

Virgin Prunes was an Irish post-punk band from Dublin. Formed in 1977 and disbanded in 1986, they were known for their subversive approach. Gavin Friday, a founding member and friend of The Edge and Bono of U2, pursued a solo career, while the bassist and drummer, renamed The Prunes, continued until 1990.
Their first 7-inch single, “Twenty Tens,” was released on their own label, Baby Records (distributed by Rough Trade), on January 8, 1981, followed by a second single, “Moments and Mine (Despite Straight Lines),” on June 27, 1981. Two more tracks were recorded with Binttii and released in 1981 before conflicts with the other members led to his departure from the band. “Red Nettle” was included on the British magazine NME's compilation album C81, and “Third Secret” was included on the compilation “Perspectives and Distortion”, released by Cherry Red.
Their first real album, titled ...if I Die, I Die, was released in 1982. Produced by Colin Newman, it features more accessible tracks. The Moon Looked Down and laughed is Virgin Prunes' last production before their separation.
