A Letter from No One

by Drora Matlofsky

I thought I saw an owl
Atop a tree this morning.
In its beak a letter
For me from...
From...

I need a cup of coffeee,
A dose of dirty dishes,
Some laundry to hang out.
I need a plugged-up sink,
A nice long line at the supermarket,
A phone call from my daughter's teacher
To bring me back
To Reality.

But-
I whisper to the owl
Before heading to the kitchen
- Come back in forty years,
Then I'll be ready.
