POETRY Magazine will accept submissions in September 15, 2026

Poetry magazine, a premier, high-paying market operated by the Poetry Foundation ($500+ per poem), reopens for submissions on September 15, 2026, following its annual summer pause. Writers are invited to submit previously unpublished work via Submittable, with a one-year response window, adhering to strict guidelines including a one-submission-at-a-time limit and simultaneous submission protocols.

Important Notes:

Poetry Magazine receive more than 100,000 poems each year. Due to the volume of submissions and their small staff, response time is up to one year. So be patient.

They are close for submissions from June 15 to September 15 annually.

Submitting to Poetry is free. Please send only one submission at a time per category and wait until you receive a response before uploading a new submission. We are eager to provide ample time and space for everyone’s voices to be considered, so additional submissions will be archived unread and will receive no response.

To ensure you receive our response, set your spam filter to allow emails from submissions@poetrymagazine.org.

They are considering only previously unpublished work. Work that has appeared online for any reason, including social media posts, is considered previously published and should not be submitted.

Poetry is open to simultaneous submissions but let them know immediately if work is accepted elsewhere by updating your submission with a message in Submittable stating that the work is no longer available.

All published work will be compensated with these rates as of our March 2026 issue:

Text poems: $500 per poem;
Visual poems: $500 per poem;
Video poems: $600 per poem;
Prose: $400 per published page.

Instructions and guides for using Submittable are available on their website. If you’re having technical issues with Submittable, please contact support@submittable.com
