Roller Coaster

by Frank Sheehan

How do you describe
life's ups and downs,
twists, turns

Just when you think
you're going one way
something unexpected happens

causing you to go
in another direction
Just when you've

got things figured out
cruising along,
you hit a bump

in the road
forcing you to shift gears
and swerve.

It's a puzzle, dilemma
trying to maintain
consistency amidst turmoil

but you traverse
many pitfalls
during excursions

through the perplexity
of everyday's survival
enjoying the ride.
