Recipe for the Perfect Dish

by M. Douglas Hoss

Take our souls and marinade
In the purest seasonings of hope.
Feel free to hum or serenade,
Dashing here and there Love's scope.

Mix with the sunshine in our hearts
Three cups of beautiful words well chosen.
Heat on low, at least to start,
So our hearts can fully thaw from frozen.

To make the sauce, just add our dreams
To their clarity of thought.
Let it warm until it steams
Then, heat on high to make it very hot.

Now, before you try the smallest bit,
Sprinkle with the sparkling in our eyes.
Then, add the nectar from our spirits
For its aromatic rise.

Pour this over what our souls now are,
Letting nothing go to waste.
Garnish with a wish filled star
To present everything to taste.

At last, sit back to let it bake
And simmer in its juice ‘til done.
Then, from this dish we’ll eat and take
The love, we’ve made, that makes us one.
