Love Never Leaves

by Barbara Bon

In some ways you know it's always been me
it grabs you from behind, that's why you can’t see it.
it's not the closeness that defines the distance
but the distance that defines the space
I know you loved her
with all her beauty and her tears
and she brought you back to me
brought you back
complete

now you're less than a shadow
mimicking the truth
as I watch the hours
erase my youth

love never leaves, it just gets buried or temporarily replaced
