The Children's Section

by Robert Lloyd Jaffe

It is a big walk, a long walk
across the library floor,
and worth every step of the way.
I think I have crossed some rivers
traversed some mountains
on easier trails, though.
Leaping from rock to rock,
hand-hold to hand-hold,
book to book--
reference, fiction, non-fiction;
in a state of exhaustion
and looking up from the page,
I see the painted turtle on the wall
in the children's section.

ABOUT THE POET ~
I am an observer and listener of the music of life. Where I find cadence, I find my interest and passion directed. It can be sound, light, smell, or purely an experience of thought. The sky, the sea, the mountains, and the machines that allow me to explore those places draw my attention, and give me serenity.
