The Crossing Guard

by Robert Lloyd Jaffe

All the children
that went by
under her watchful
eye
would laugh at her
funny little car
with the daisies.
And then one day
and without explanation
her children had
a revelation:
The hand holding the stop sign
on the spar
had a much less funny car.
They didn't stop laughing
as children never should--
but I certainly noticed,
and missed--
the playfulness of her assist.

ABOUT THE POET ~
I am an observer and listener of the music of life. Where I find cadence, I find my interest and passion directed. It can be sound, light, smell, or purely an experience of thought. The sky, the sea, the mountains, and the machines that allow me to explore those places draw my attention, and give me serenity.
