Elegy

I have traveled by the three parts of the world,
I saw the sea from which the sun rises,
And I saw the wave where sleep awaits,
And a thousand blessings including high praise
Make strange nations amazed,
Pulling them there by a desire to see
Who of the countries greatness wants to know.
I have endured many hard fortunes
Above the waves, kingdom of Neptune;
I have endured many fortunes too
Above the earth, prey to care,
Either traveling in various regions,
Or by following Bellone and its sleepers.
All his misfortunes, alas! I overcame
To finally be tamed with two beautiful eyes,
Eyes that make me a cruel war,
Cruel as much as it seems new.
All previously known works
Are nothing to me near those that Venus
Makes me suffer. A lover pains
more than any other is full of misery:
But the beauty that causes my torment
Well worth the pain I suffer in loving.
