Envoi

Diane Fahey

Let me draw my cloak across this story
like a wing.
I ran myself to ground, into the ground,
to escape darkness.
In animal earth I was nurtured until
reborn from it.
I am the hunted and the hunter,
the drudge in gown of cosmic splendour,
the lowly cook brought to sit at the banquet.
I am the silenced one, the teller.
