And What If

by Drora Matlofsky

What will I do
If, as years go by,
My writing gets better
Instead of worse?

What if the Powers That Be
Elect me to sit among the Chosen Few?

Shall I spend my days
Basking in my glory,
Never writing another word
For Fear
Of falling off my pedestal?

I think
I'll keep writing.
Pedestals get boring
After a while.
