Collecting

by Robert Lloyd Jaffe

We are put in this world with everything
we don’t know what we have,
and spend the first half of life trying to discover
all that is within, and what can be done with it.
We leave this world with nothing
we know what we had,
and spend the last half of life trying to let go
of all that we have collected, and wonder how
we can do without it.

ABOUT THE POET ~
I am an observer and listener of the music of life. Where I find cadence, I find my interest and passion directed. It can be sound, light, smell, or purely an experience of thought. The sky, the sea, the mountains, and the machines that allow me to explore those places draw my attention, and give me serenity.
