Overcoming Obstacles

Once there was an oyster,
whose story I tell,
who found that some sand,
had got into his shell.
It was quite a small grain,
but it gave him great pain,
for oysters to have feelings,
although they are plain.

Now did he berate,
to harsh workings of fate,
that had brought him in,
such a deplorable state?
Did he curse at the government,
cry for elections,
and claimed that the sea,
should have looked after his situation?

No - he said to himself,
as he lay on a stone,
if I cannot remove it,
I shall try to improve it.
Now the years rolled around,
as years always do,
and there came his ultimate,
destiny - stew.

And a small grain of sand,
that had bothered him so,
was a beautiful pearl,
all fairly aglow.
The tale has a moral,
for isn't it grand,
what an oyster can do,
to a morsel of sand.

What couldn't we do,
only if we would begin,
with some of the small things,
that get under our skin..
