Passing Through

by Robert Lloyd Jaffe

Take care, and care for the words you say to me
in front of school, Son.
You may not believe it now,
but I am just passing through.
Whisper under the covers to me at night,
smell me as I smell you;
someday I will miss you,
because I am just passing through.
So far ahead we look at the world together,
it seems like it will never end;
I know, because yesterday I was you.
Pick your path carefully through the forest,
because soon you will look back,
and I won’t be there to guide you true.
Just a few minutes we have shared
on the same trail,
for I am just passing through.

ABOUT THE POET ~
I am an observer and listener of the music of life. Where I find cadence, I find my interest and passion directed. It can be sound, light, smell, or purely an experience of thought. The sky, the sea, the mountains, and the machines that allow me to explore those places draw my attention, and give me serenity.
