One Day

by Drora Matlofsky

One day, when you're a big girl,
I'll take you to the theatre,
He said.
To the Comédie Française,
The greatest of all
And we'll watch Molière.

I liked Molière,
I read all his plays.
I saw a few too,
With school,
Pretty women with long dresses
Giving witty answers
To men in silly wigs
And funny short trousers.

Each time I walked by
The Comédie Française
I dreamed of the promise
Hiding behind its doors.

Then I stopped walking by.

One day, when you're a big girl...

I am a big girl
And there are no days left.
