Story of a Poet

by Drora Matlofsky

Once there was a woman
who thought she was a Poet
with a capital P.
She thought it made her special.
She might even have thought it defined her
if poetry hadn't taught her
the vanity of defining anything.

The problem with being a Poet
with a capital P
is that Poets
with capital Ps
have to have their poems Critiqued,
Scougified,
Publishablized,
to please editors,

while there are so many other people,
all over the world,
who write poetry
just to please themselves.

So she got rid of the capital P.
