She was described as a poepular poet, whose writings focuses on genuine poetic feeling and was particularly known to have traveled widely. A contemporary critic commented, Her adventures in the Orient have coloured her work, and with power and attraction she succeeded really getting to know much concerning the natives and their customs wherever she went. Much of her verse should, after all, be classed as balladry, in fact as a lyricist, she has gained a wide audience, however, especially in her later work, there is much more than graceful appeal.
