About Ansel Elkins

Ansel Elkins is an American poet who won the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition in 2014. Her collection, Blue Yodel, was published by Yale University Press in 2015. Born and raised in northern Alabama, she completed her BA at Sarah Lawrence College and her MFA at UNC Greensboro. She has also received the Discovery/Boston Review Poetry Prize and a 2013 NEA Creative Writing fellowship, and was a James Merrill House Fellow in 2015. Her work has been featured in publications such as The American Scholar, The Believer, Oxford American, Parnassus, and Virginia Quarterly Review. She has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the North Carolina Arts Council, the American Antiquarian Society, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, in addition to the Discovery/Boston Review Prize. Currently, she serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Creative Writing at Berea College.
