Fleur Adcock, born on February 10, 1934, in Auckland, and died on October 10 or 11, 2024, in London, was a New Zealand poet and editor. Of English and Northern Irish descent, she spent most of her life in England and published thirteen collections of poetry. Her first collection of poetry, “The Eye of the Hurricane”, was published in New Zealand in 1964, and in 1967 her collection Tigers was published in the UK. She is one of the notable voices in New Zealand literature. Well represented in anthologies of New Zealand poetry, she received an honorary doctorate in literature from Victoria University of Wellington and was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1996 for “her contribution to New Zealand literature.” In 2008, she was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to literature.
