About J. Wallis Martin

Born in Brighton, UK, in 1956, Julia Wallis Martin studied film before becoming an editor. After spending several years in South Africa, she returned to England and began writing. She is a poet and author of novellas and crime novels. She studied film and English at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She received her PhD from the University of St Andrews. After completing her studies, Julia Wallis Martin married and followed her husband to Johannesburg, where she worked as an editor, notably for Hodder & Stoughton. Unable to bear the climate of insecurity in South Africa, she decided to move to Oxford in 1992 and began writing. After The Long Close Call (2000), A Likeness in Stone (1997) which a finalist for the Edgar Allan Poe Award, and The Bird Yard (1998), Dancing with the Uninvited Guest (2002) is her fourth novel translated into many languages.
