About Nina Berkhout
Nina Berkhout (born 1975) is a Canadian poet and novelist originally from Calgary and now living in Ottawa. It was while catching herself whistling along to the radio that she came up with the initial idea for Why Birds Sing, which became L'espoir est cette chose à plumes (2022), based on the line by Emily Dickinson. Her first novel, a sisterly quest, was published in French under the title Le Musée des espèces disparues (XYZ, 2017). Berkhout won the Archibald Lampman Award in 2013 for Elseworlds, a volume of poetry. The award was for the year's best poetry. She is the author of The Gallery of Lost Species, a novel. Berkhout's earlier work has been shortlisted for THIS magazine's Great Canadian Literary Hunt, The Archibald Lampman Award, and the John Hirsch Award.Browse all poems and texts published on Nina Berkhout
